1995-1998

The next fiscal year for the Association-May 1, 1995 through April 30, 1996, proved to be a year of continued growth in membership and development of activities for the Association.

By the 4th Annual Conference, "Understanding and Dealing with Today\'s Domestic and International Corporate Real Estate Issues," on April 27-29, 1995, in Atlanta, membership had grown to 200.

A major new activity for the Association was developed during the year with the application by AECRE to eleven states for approval of CLE hours (continuing legal education) for attorney members attending the Conference. All eleven states approved the Conference for credits-mostly in the range of 10.75 hrs.

At the close of the Conference, Ron Barger moved up to the position of Chairman of the Association and David Snediker was elected to Vice Chairman for the coming year.

During the next year, the Board of Directors decided it was time to establish a Reserve Account for the Association. The fund was started with an initial $4,000.00 from the operating account with an additional 15% of AECRE\'s net each year to be placed in reserve. A Finance Committee was formed and charged with the review of all items that affect the Association fiscally. The Board also approved a formal Sponsorship Policy and created a Governance Committee.

In connection with the newsletter, the State Liaison Committee was revamped to include approximately 25 members from all over the U.S. These individuals watch legal developments within their states and submit those of special interest to the membership for publication in the newsletter. The Board also approved the establishment of a website and a committee was formed to further this goal.

By the time of the 5th Annual Conference, "Confronting Tomorrow\'s Challenges Facing Corporate Real Estate" in Dallas, April 25-27, 1996, membership had grown to 220-a net increase of 10% even in light of a substantial mid-year dues increase. Attendees enjoyed a beautiful evening at the famous Southfork Ranch, home of the 1980\'s television show "Dallas", as well as a golf outing on Saturday and a full guest program.

With the conclusion of the Conference, David Snediker moved into the position of Chairman of the Association and Rory O\'Bryan was elected as the Vice Chairman.

During the following year the Board of Directors agreed to hold a mid-year Board meeting in Chicago. This was the first time the Board met between annual conferences, other than for periodic conference calls.

The 6th Annual Conference was held at Marriott\'s Camelback Inn Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. Membership stood at 235 and a total of 147 people participated in the conference. A tennis tournament was added this year. One of the many positive results of the move to a resort location was much growth to the guest program. The relaxing atmosphere also encouraged further development of close-knit professional relationships-one of the benefits for which AECRE has become known.

The Board approved design of an AECRE website at www.AECRE.org. They also increased the size of the Board of Directors with a limit of 15 voting members (this includes three Past Chairmen) while retaining other involved Past Chairmen as ex officio members of the Board.

Rory O\'Bryan began his year as Chairman with the close of the 6th Annual Conference, and Susan M. Gschwendtner was elected as Vice Chairman.

A 3-page index of all past articles published in the AECRE newsletter, listed by author and subject, was printed in the Fall \'97 issue. Many key decisions were made at the Spring \'98 Board meeting. AECRE\'s fiscal year was changed from 5/1-4/30 to 6/1-5/31, to more easily accommodate our cycle of operations in relation to our cash system of accounting. The reserve account was increased by $10,000 bringing it to $16,000 and plans for an audit were approved.

Plans to improve the Membership Directory by the inclusion of members\' pictures, a different binding, and a more colorful cover were accepted. A dues increase (effective August 1998) was approved bringing Association yearly dues to $250/yr.

AECRE\'s 7th Annual Conference was held at the world-class South Seas Plantation Resort on Captiva Island, Florida on April 23-25, 1998. Susan M. Gschwendtner began her year as Chairman of the Association at the close of the 7th Annual Conference and Hershel J. Richman was elected to the position of Vice Chairman of AECRE.

A "first ever" Membership Reception and Panel Discussion was held in late fall of 1998 in New York City as a membership promotion in this area of the country. The meeting proved to be a huge success with approximately l20 members and non-members in attendance. The panel discussion was a joint presentation by eight involved New York attorneys and executives on "The Making of 42nd Street."

The first AECRE Fall Forum was held in Chicago on November l3-l4, l998, at the historic Palmer House Hilton hotel, now giving the Association two yearly educational events. Some 80 people were in attendance and enjoyed a very full program including a major panel presentation, a keynote speaker, and eight select roundtable presentations and discussions on cutting-edge issues, plus an architectural mobile workshop tour of Chicago. A unique, "getting-to-know-you" networking luncheon started the overall program.

A formal audit of AECRE was made by the accounting firm of De Raimo Eisen & Fey, who found the financial and accounting records to be completely in order with the comment that "In our opinion, the financial statements referred to in the report, present fairly, in all material respects, the assets, liabilities and net assets of the Association as of April 30, l998."
